Anything Arts
"Anything Arts" is a newsletter that covers, as the name implies, anything art-related in the greater Sarasota and Manatee areas. The free newsletter is written by artists, for artists, giving exposure to emerging artists and reminding the community of upcoming artistic and cultural events. The newsletter is distributed free every two weeks; one can choose to receive it via email by signing up at the Anything Arts website, located at http://www.anythingarts.com.
Anything Arts is put together and distributed by true artists. Christine Alexander is an improvisational actor with the Florida Studio Theatre, a Sarasota-based theater company focusing on contemporary works. Alexander has produced shows including "Becky´s Rejects," "SAW," and "The gg Monologues." Her partner, Rick Hughes, is executive producer of the Sarasota Actors Workshop, which has consistently sold out performances of its unique shows, including "Honor," "Legend," and "Five in the Afternoon."
Alexander, who is also involved in an Anything Arts-supported improvisational theater troupe, "Becky´s Rejects," has called the greater Sarasota area "an amazing community" offering artists plenty of support. She has been quoted as desiring to attract as diverse as possible of a crowd to artistic and cultural events in the community, from the traditional to the more independent, contemporary, and unusual.
Anything Arts regularly features an individual artist. Recently, for example, the newsletter highlighted the works of Lisa Ward Landsman. Landsman, a Tampa resident, has found her art influenced by art and wildlife; the artist works part time at the Florida Aquarium, while her artwork graces galleries and private collections in Florida and throughout the United States. Anything Arts welcomes submissions from the public for artists who deserve to be featured and made known to the Sarasota community.
Anything Arts provides information about current and upcoming artistic and cultural events. An edition of the newsletter may, for example, include information about an art exhibition, a movie review, radio programs of interest to artists, special events in Sarasota or Manatee and surrounding areas, musical performances, theater, comedy, festivals, auditions, educational opportunities and workshops, and opportunities to meet with authors and artists.
Anything Arts works closely with The Backlot, the Sarasota venue that provides all-inclusive accessibility to a wide variety of arts for residents of and visitors to greater Sarasota. More information about The Backlot is available at its website, http://www.BacklotArts.com.
Anything Arts is always willing to hear from community members and visiting artists working in any medium about new opportunities for developing further the Sarasota and Manatee arts communities. The Anything Arts website, which includes current information about area arts events, artist profiles, the current newsletter, archives of past issues, and more, is available at http://www.anythingarts.com.
