Players Theatre
The Players Theatre, commonly known as "The Players," is a 77-year-old non-profit theater organization based in Sarasota. The Players, located at 838 North Tamiami Trail in Sarsota, presents musicals, concerts, and special events.
Current and forthcoming musicals for the 2007 season include "Miss Saigon," a classic Broadway show; "The Robber Bridegroom," a southern fairy tale with a score of Bluegrass music; and "Nine," a Tony-award winning show on the classic award winning film "8 ½." Concerts are diverse and offer examples of a wide variety of music from around the nation and around the world, such as the Kusum Ensemble from Ghana in West Africa, showcasing 10 talented singers, musicians, and dancers.
Special events are regularly hosted by The Players. Recent and upcoming events include jazz events, fashion shows, and Films for Your Heart, showcasing positive films that are designed to bring a feel-good atmosphere to the Sarasota community.
Ticket prices are $23.00 for adults and $12.00 for individual performances. Season tickets, which cover six musicals, are available for $93.00, a savings of $33.00. For $96.00, a Flex Pass covers any combination of six tickets-individual tickets for six performances or six tickets to a single performance, for example. The Players invite fellow Florida actors to audition to take part in the theater´s performances. Auditions are held in August and November of each year; newcomers are asked to prepare a one-minute song and a one-minute monologue. Players Theatre offers a number of educational opportunities to the greater Sarasota community. The Players Performing Arts School provides exposure to all types of performing arts to children and adults. Courses are offered in acting, dancing, and singing for beginners. More advanced courses for seasoned thespians feature cross-over training, such as acting skills for singers and dancers and voice and dance skills for actors. Classes are offered throughout the year. The Theatre has a new four-studio Performing Arts Studio, which serves Sarasota and Manatee counties, located on Tallevast Road in Sarasota. Players Theatre is available for rent for special events, conferences, trade shows, seminars, and other functions. Rental packages can be customized to include The Players´ lighting, technical, scenery, and sound teams. In addition, The Players offer for rental various theater props for use at the Theatre or offsite.
