Egmont Key State Park

Message from the Manager

Come and visit Egmont Key State Park, where you will enjoy the most beautiful waters of Tampa Bay. Relaxing and shell collecting along its pristine, palm tree lined, secluded beaches, is a year round favorite activity. Also during your visit, you will see a 150 year old working lighthouse, gun batteries built in 1898, to defend Tampa Bay and 100 year old brick roads. There is no gift shop on the island, so please remember to bring water, food and sunscreen, when you visit.

Egmont Key is cooperatively managed by the Florida Department Of Environmental Protection, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Coast Guard. The entire island is a wildlife refuge. There are many species of birds, Gopher Tortoise and Box Turtles to be seen. Don't forget your camera.

Tom Watson - Park Manager

The island of Egmont Key has unique natural and cultural histories, which have made it a valuable resource since the time settlers first arrived in Florida.

Named in honor of John Perceval, the second Earl of Egmont and member of the Irish House of Commons in 1763, Egmont Key has had Spanish conquistadors and nuclear submarines pass its shores as they entered Tampa Bay.

Egmont Key State Park is cooperatively managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Coast Guard. Access to the island is by boat only. The park is located at the mouth of Tampa Bay, southwest of Fort DeSoto Beach.

Hours of Operation
